From deodorant to cooking spray, you may make your own items at home. At first, I was afraid to try any of them– I think I would have rather simply gone to the shop and purchased all of my favorite goods. I mean, I absolutely like the Gain scent! That’s something I can’t give up, right? After doing the extensive study, I learned that the majority of popular homemade items are relatively simple to prepare, involve fewer than five ingredients, are a fraction of the cost of commercial products, and, most importantly, are better for you and your health! I eventually decided to give some of these DIY items a try after reading the huge list of chemicals in some of the goods I was purchasing.
All of your household requirements may be met with homemade items! I put up a list of some of my favorite handmade goods. I dropped a couple of popular homemade items off the list (laundry detergent and dish detergent) since they didn’t appear to stand up or perform as well after reading the reviews and attempting to locate the best recipes. The best part is that many of these recipes employ items you most likely already have on hand! However, you’ll need a few items to get started, including spray bottles of various sizes, jars, essential oils, and a creative set of labels, such as this blackboard label pack. Everything else may be found at any supermarket or health food shop.
Bug Repellent Made at Home
If you’re anything like me, you know how mosquitos can spoil an evening outside by stinging and buzzing around your ears, making it tough to enjoy yourself. Even though I’m usually the one who gets bitten, I can’t bring myself to use commercial bug spray since it makes me feel like I’m pouring poison on my body! There are natural oils that repel pests without the use of harmful pesticides. Simply combine 14 drops of citronella essential oil and 14 drops of purifying essential oil in a cup of distilled water (a blend of natural mosquito repellents like lemongrass and rosemary). Before each use, pour into a tiny spray bottle and mix well. Spray it liberally over your body and clothing, but keep it away from your face. If it’s not working as well as you’d want, add extra essential oils. Oh, and make sure the bottle is labeled!
Deodorant produced at home
I’ve been reluctant to try DIY deodorant (I mean, why go to the hassle of creating it when I can simply purchase it?), but I’ve had a few friends who have tried it and swear that it works much better than storebought deodorant. Hmm, maybe I should give it a go. I embarked on a quest to find the greatest homemade deodorant recipe, and this is the one that received the most positive feedback. In a small saucepan of boiling water, melt the shea butter and coconut oil in a glass mason jar. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the baking soda, arrowroot powder, and essential oils. Add additional baking soda if you don’t have arrowroots. Allow it to cool fully (no need to refrigerate) before scooping it into an empty deodorant bottle. Voila! More extensive directions for this dish may be found here.
Cold Remedy Made at Home
Combine all three ingredients in a microwave-safe bowl and cook for 10-15 seconds. As required, drink once a day. That concludes our discussion. This mixture will most likely make you pucker, but every bittersweet drop is worth it. It aids in the treatment of colds, sinus infections, and sore throats. If you intend on drinking this often, make sure to rinse your mouth with water afterward to protect your teeth’ enamel (this mixture is very acidic). Wood Scratch Repair at Home
It doesn’t get much simpler than this, and it really works! Years ago, I used this combination on my kitchen cabinets and was astounded at how much of a change it made– they looked like new! It was as if I had used an eraser to remove all of the scratches. Simply combine 1/4 cup white vinegar with 3/4 cup olive oil (canola or vegetable oil would probably work as well). You don’t have to be precise with the dimensions; you may even eyeball it. Dip the liquid and massage it over any finished wood furniture or cabinet that needs some TLC.
Fruit and Veggie Wash
To create an all-natural fruit and vegetable wash, you just need a few products that you probably already have at home! Fill a spray bottle halfway with baking soda, lemon juice, and water, give it a little shake, and then spritz and massage your fresh vegetables. Don’t forget to rinse afterward. Check out this bundle of 40 different labels in various sizes if you want to label your bottle.
Jewelry Cleaner
I don’t wear jewelry, although I do have a wedding band that I sometimes forget about. Despite the fact that I wear it every day, it’s the one item I never thought to clean! I believe I forgot how gleaming it was meant to be after 15 years of marriage. If you want to restore some brilliance to your jewelry, just combine these ordinary home components with hot water and soak your jewelry for as long as you like (you really only need 10-15 minutes). Scrub using a soft toothbrush if you have a lot of grooves and nooks to reach.
Poo be gone was created at home
We all have to deal with sticker goo sometimes and it is one of my major pet peeves–the one that truly gets under my skin and causes smoke to pour out of my ears! It’s extremely aggravating to purchase a photo frame just to discover thick sticker residue in the center of the glass cover! Arg! Don’t be concerned! I discovered a product produced at home that works. Goo Gone is the only thing I’ve discovered that makes the procedure of taking it off less frightening however it reeks very bad. When I’m done, the whole home smells like gasoline, and you can never locate the stuff when you need it. If you’re in a hurry, combine vegetable oil and baking soda. The oil aids in the removal of the sticky residue, while the baking soda acts as an abrasive. If you want a thicker paste, add a bit more baking soda until you get the desired consistency.
Detangling Spray
Isn’t that obvious? I’d never considered it before, but detangle spray is just a conditioner that’s been watered down. For less than a quarter, you can create a bottle of this stuff! Fill a decent quality spray bottle roughly 1/4 full with conditioner and the remainder with hot water (even less if you’re using a more costly brand or a thicker hair mask). Fill the bottle approximately halfway with water, give it a good shake, fill the remaining space with additional hot water, then label it with tape or something fancier like these to get it mixed very well.
Ear Drops Made at Home
Put roughly four drops of this DIY to avoid the swimmer’s ear. This should not be used if you already have an ear infection; the alcohol only helps to dry out your ears, while the vinegar helps to battle bacteria build-up. Check out this article for additional details.
Carpet Powder Made at Home
You may already know that baking soda creates wonders for removing odors from carpet, rugs, and automobile upholstery, but adding essential oils to the mix leaves your house smelling fresh, just like the store-bought carpet powders, except cheaper and far better for you to inhale! In the container, you wish to store it in (an empty parmesan container is a fantastic idea! ), combine several drops of essential oil with a box of baking soda. Sprinkle the mixture on the odor-prone regions of your carpet, allow it to rest for 15 minutes, and then vacuum it up.
Glass Cleaner Made at Home
The Dawn blue dish detergent helps remove grease, the alcohol helps it dry quickly, so there are no streaks, and the ammonia is an overall cleanser that helps with dust and other particles. You’ll need an empty gallon jar to store this recipe since it produces around a gallon. Alternatively, you may quarter the mixture to fit into a big spray bottle. Fill your container halfway with water, then add the rest of your ingredients and fill it out with additional water. Use on windows and mirrors after a gentle shake.
Pourree made at home
I used to think this product was a joke, but after doing some research, I discovered that “poo” pourri (I love the word!) is truly more effective than any room deodorizer you could purchase. There’s a little science behind it as well. Because you spray it in your toilet BEFORE you use it, the oils form a barrier on top of the water, trapping all of the aromas below. Now it’s all beginning to make sense! Simply with one teaspoon of alcohol, 30+ drops of essential oil (your choice–lavender, orange, rosemary, peppermint, lemongrass, or a mix of several), and the rest with water. Before you use the bathroom, spray the toilet bowl 3-5 times. A couple of recipes I’ve seen also use a few drops of blue food coloring for added impact.
You can see this way, and you’ll feel more secure knowing your “force field” is in place.
